Celebrating Alannah MacDonald’s PhD Thesis Defense

Congratulations to Alannah on successfully defending her PhD thesis, “Characterizing the phosphorylation-regulated MYC-protein interactome”🎉🔬

Today, Alannah excelled in defending her groundbreaking PhD thesis, supervised by Dr. Linda Penn and Dr. Brian Raught. This groundbreaking research contributes vital insights into MYC protein regulation and its potential implications for cancer development. Alannah’s work aligns with cutting-edge research in the field, exploring how MYC interacts with various proteins to regulate gene transcription and drive oncogenesis. Her thesis likely delves into the complex network of MYC, utilizing advanced techniques such as BioID, and proximity ligation assays to identify and validate these interactions.

To celebrate this momentous achievement, we enjoyed a celebratory lunch at Mercatto with distinguished guest Dr. Rosalie Sears, full professor in the Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Sears, who served on Alannah’s committee, also delivered an enlightening talk at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre on “The Role of MYC in Aggressive Liver Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer.” This remarkable day not only marked a significant milestone in Alannah’s academic journey but also fostered valuable scientific discussions and collaborations in the field of cancer research. 🚀
